The Basics
Respect: I’m not gonna mince my words. Don’t be a dick. Harassment of any form towards members and staff will be handled swiftly and without an iota of remorse. You don’t have to be friends with everyone but I expect everyone to be respectful to one another, even during disagreements.
Rating: This site deals with horror and action as well as other themes that you would find in an R-rated movie. At the very least, we ask you put a trigger warning or disclaimer at the beginning of your post and/or thread if you're going to write about topics that would make someone uncomfortable. I don't think I have to spell this out for you, use your best judgment. If you think a scene requires a fade to black, you are welcome to it.
No Discrimination: This falls under not being an asshole but I’ll repeat anyways. As Above, So Below does not and will not discriminate against race, age, gender, or sexual orientation. We will not tolerate anyone who does. Anyone may join so long as they follow the rules. While proboards requires you to be 13 or older to join a forum, we assume you are responsible and mature enough to join should you create an account.
No God-Modding: Do not control another member’s character unless they give you permission. Metagaming, powerplaying, godmodding. That being said...
Posting and Character Rules
Abandoning Threads: Life happens, people get busy. The nature of the site’s Mission format does leave things time-sensitive, though. After 7 days from the last post made in the thread, your character will be written out at the request of those you are writing with. The penalty is your character receiving a hit to their Sanity and a hit to their Wounds. If this happens multiple times, your character will take permanent damage. There are consequences for leaving people hanging. Just be vocal and talk with the people you’re writing with, write yourself out of the Mission or find someone to take your place. Show respect to those you are writing with, bow out when your responsibilities outweigh your time spent here.
DEATH: I have this in big fucking red letters for a reason. This is something that has to be accepted. While outside of missions, only you have a say on what is done to your character. The Wounds/Sanity system does not apply unless requested. Missions can go very wrong due to the RNG we use here. Do not argue if the numbers aren’t in your favor. There are plenty of ways to keep your character alive through items, skills, and working with other players. However, death can still happen to the most prepared. With that in mind we advise that before every mission you get your character’s affairs in order.
Death Incentive: We will not write your character’s end for you. That is on you. Staff merely inform you that you did not survive the encounter according to the RNG and chart we follow. Now, I can understand a certain level of “salt” if your character is killed. It sucks but it happens. The incentive for finishing out that final post with your character? Bonuses for the ones you’re writing with in the form of a 15% increase to Experience and Coin on mission completion (assuming they can complete the mission). At least 1 page is required for that final post for that bonus. You will also receive a small bonus to your next character you create dependent on your current level. Should you all perish on the mission? Well...such is life in Avara. People die here. A lot.
Multiple Characters: To create another character will require you get your first character to Level 5. To create a third character, your first character should be level 10 and your second at level 5. Seeing the pattern? There is no limit to characters so long as you can keep them going. Or they die...then it’s simply time to make a new character, no level requirement there! Cause, ya know...they're dead.
Site Stuff
Name: We ask that you change your display name to match your character’s name. This can be done under Edit Profile.
• Create a new account on this forum.
• Leave your email as is.
• Create new username
• You are not a robot (I hope)
• Check confirmation email. Look good? Awesome.
• Done
You can easily switch between accounts using the same little guy in the corner. Super simple.
Forum Stretch: This site uses a skin to keep things in order. It looks pretty, don’t stretch it. Chances are it will just cut off but just be aware of the size of pictures before posting. Max size for images is 560 x 800 (width x height) pixels. Since I'm still figuring out forum skins so if it stretches the format, I will remove it and talk with you about resizing.
Avatar: Max size is 200 x 400 (width x height) pixels.
Signature: Write what you want, links or fancy little poems. Be conscious of how it looks, don’t stretch out your signature too long. Only one image, though. Max image size is 500 x 250 (width x height) pixels.
Image Help: There are plenty of image resizing sites and photo manipulation sites out there to get images just right for our format requirements. If you need help, you can always ask over in the discord. For now, my suggestion is GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) if you don’t have photoshop or are adverse to using ms paint.

Disagreements: I hate to be hands off but if you have an issue then try to handle it between yourselves before coming to staff to mediate. Most times things are misunderstood or unintentional and can be fixed by talking with one another. There’s an edit button available to any post you make, you can fix mistakes. That said, any manipulation of posts just to be a horrid little troll will earn a stomping.
Trust: You manage your own profile and trackers. Staff is here to make sure there's no funny business but for the most part we trust you to be honest and uphold integrity when adding things such as Experience, Levels, Techniques, etc. to your character. People abusing our trust will be reprimanded.
No God-Modding: Do not control another member’s character unless they give you permission. Metagaming, powerplaying, godmodding. That being said...
Posting and Character Rules
Communicate: This is more of a suggestion than an ironclad rule, though I strongly encourage communication all around. There has been so many times in the past where a story is only being pushed forward by one person and everyone else is just reacting to that and not adding anything to the story other than their character’s perspective. That’s fine and dandy sometimes and a lot of people are cool with that. Talk through private messages, discord, what have you. Be willing to let go of the reigns a little.
Faceclaims and Setting: I swear if I see some lightsabers or something, I'm gonna flip my lid. Original characters, please. When doing faceclaims, no real people. Anime/comics are fine so long as you can keep in mind the setting we have here. We kinda got a theme going here, I'd like to go for not breaking that immersion.

Multiple Accounts: Aside from matching your name to your character profile, what about other characters you make? Each new character needs an account. It’s actually pretty simple to setup a new character account with your current account. In the bottom right corner of proboards is a picture like this:
Click that guy and follow these instructions to setup:
• Create a new account on this forum.
• Leave your email as is.
• Create new username
• You are not a robot (I hope)
• Check confirmation email. Look good? Awesome.
